Construction

Purpose of the Group

Scotland’s construction industry has an estimated turnover of £ 10bn per annum an supports 250,000 direct and indirect jobs.

Given the significance of the industry in Scotland it is vital that it takes an appropriate place on the political agenda and that the Cross-Party Group applies itself to examining issues pertaining to the industry as:

  • The relationship between the Parliament and the construction industry, particularly when such a large element of public procurement is on construction
  • The need to have focused education and training in place to supply the industry’s requirements for skills and ensure that there is an attractive career path and long term employment opportunities.
  • The need for Parliament to work with the industry to ensure a safe and healthy working environment for the industry and the general public.
  • The need for Parliament to work with the industry to eradicate rogue traders from the industry for the benefit, safety and protection of the consumer and the industry.

The aim of the group is to ensure that Scotland has a world-class construction industry delivering best value for its clients, a safe environment on its sites and a proper career path and employment prospects for its people.
